FREE AT LAST

For centuries minorities have had to live in the manacles of segregation
Remembering, thinking, about living on a lonely island of poverty
Exiled in his own land
Each day brings us closer to being free from our chains of discrimination
Demanding freedom but in a peaceful manner searching for a joyous daybreak
Opposing those who do not let us search for the pursuit of happiness
Minority, we are, but Thank God Almighty, we are free at last.

A poem I wrote freshman year of high school. Hopeful for the future. We have a long way to go...
